Education Collaboration in Canton Shows Promise

Increasing the educational attainment of our region's residents is essential if we are to advance Northeast Ohio, and few places have made as much progress in this area as Stark County. The concerted, long-term efforts of the Stark Education Partnership have resulted in dramatic increases in high school graduation rates and the number of graduates going on to college.

Stark schools use a variety of collaborations to boost their results and recently the Canton Repository highlighted a new collaboration between the University of Akron and Allen Elementary School in Canton to create what is known as a Professional Development School. Student teachers and faculty from the university work with the teachers at Allen to more effectively respond to student needs.

Individual and small group attention is possible because of an increased number of educators in the building.

School officials credit the collaboration for the significant improvement in student performance on recent state tests.

This innovative collaboration is another example that together we can produce more results than we can on our own.
