Advanced Placement Continues to Grow in Stark, Success Outpaces State

Advanced Placement Tests 2008-2012

For the third year in a row, the number of Stark County students taking Advanced Placement courses has surpassed the 2,000 mark.

College Board figures show that a historic high of 2,176 students accounted for 3,478 course enrollments across all 17 of the county's public school districts during the 2011-12 academic year. Students further earned a score of 3 or higher 2,121 times on exams offered at the end of those courses. At that level, over 90% of the nation's colleges and universities will award college credit, advanced course placement, or both.

While the Ohio Department of Education notes that the number of Ohio students earning a score of 3 or higher has increased 43.2% over the past five years[1] that increase has been over 50% in Stark County.
