Survey Reports One Third of Kids Read for Pleasure

Only 31% of children age 6 to 17 report reading for pleasure in a recent survey. Experts suggest that reading to children throughout elementary school, reducing electronic screen time, and providing time in the school day for reading for pleasure increase the likelihood that children will choose to read for non-academic reasons daily.

According to the American Community Survey 1-year data, the median family income in Stark County Ohio has increased 17% (over $8,000) from 2005 to 2013.

Some of this increase may be attributable to the increase in educational attainment in Stark County over the past decade as a higher percentage of residents are completing associate and bachelor's degrees
