Hornets Swarm to Address Artificial
Intelligence (AI)

Osnaburg Local is embracing the opportunity to evolve their curriculum and learning experiences - for both students and staff - by accepting invitations to engage in three new science, technology and engineering opportunities:

1) They will participate in the Amazon Future Engineers program which provides free access to high caliber course content in Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science, AP Computer Science Principles, and Intro to Computer Science. By offering these courses - along with curricular resources and programs for schools and districts - the Amazon initiative seeks to prepare and propel high school students forward in their pursuit of AP computer science education.

The district will provide a teacher partnered with Edhesive; a fully sequenced and paced digital curriculum; teacher resources; and professional 7-days-per-week live support to develop and deliver these courses. Data indicate students enrolled in these courses consistently beat AP national averages.

2) Osnaburg will participate in the International Society of Technology in Education (ISTE) - GM Artificial Intelligence Explorations in K-12 School Environments program. This program is a groundbreaking K-12 STEM education collaboration between ISTE and General Motors Corporate Giving to promote artificial intelligence explorations and their practical use in school environments.

Participants in the program have access to a 30-hour asynchronous artificial intelligence online course; AI and STEM Career Exploration Network webinars; and online community and practical resources. This program requires the creation of a problem based learning (PBL) unit designed around artificial intelligence. Osnaburg faculty are creating the PBL unit resources within their Learning Management System that will be accessible to all.

3) Pointful Education selected Osnaburg Local to pilot content including cutting edge online courses for schools in the area of virtual reality, augmented reality, robotics, artificial intelligence and drones. The curriculum includes PBL units built into each course. Teachers are currently exploring the content while Pointful loads the courses into the district's Learning Management System.

Additionally, Osnaburg is collaborating locally with several businesses and tech leaders in Stark County to provide feedback for the school district's work and potentially provide on-site career experiences for students.
