Stark's 8th Graders Outperform Nation on EXPLORE Test

This Fall 3,639 Stark County 8th graders across all 17 school districts took the

EXPLORE[1] test. On every measure, they outperformed the national average.

EXPLORE is the first test in what ACT calls its EPAS system. It measures achievement in math, science, reading and English for 8th or 9th graders against a series of college readiness standards that predict whether students are on course to succeed in college or the workplace. EXPLORE is followed by

PLAN in the 10th grade and the ACT Test in 11th or 12th grades.

The test allows parents to check the progress of their student and results enable school districts to assess how well their middle school curriculum aligns with the future needs of students. This was the first year all Stark County districts gave the test. Funding was provided by the Stark Education Partnership and the

Ohio College Access Network.
