Ohio Department of Education Awards High School-Higher Education Alignment Grant to Stark Consortium

A consortium formed by the Stark County Educational Service Center (SCESC) has received a grant from the Ohio Department of Education, in collaboration with the Ohio Board of Regents, to align college ready expectations between high schools and higher education institutions.[1]

The three-year $100,000 grant, one of only 14 made after a state-wide competition, was contingent on building a broad-based collaboration that could:

  • Align curriculum in English language arts and mathematics to positively impact postsecondary remediation rates;
  • Align teacher preparation programs to meet Ohio's new rigorous content standards; and
  • Provide on-going data exchange between high schools and higher education institutions to promote greater student mobility and college success.

The Stark Consortium includes all 17 public school districts and Stark's higher education institutions along with SCESC and the Stark Education Partnership. Stark and other consortia will work to develop best practices to inform the entire state.
