For Stark County Schools, the
Boy at Computer - The Future is NowFuture is Now

The future is now for Stark County schools.

Last Friday, over 140 educators and business representatives who gathered at R.G. Drage were treated to a state-of-the-art, interactive high-tech presentation, narrated by Mel Lioi, assistant superintendent of the Stark County Schools. Armed with electronic "clickers," participants became a part of the presentation themselves and were getting a first hand view of the future of schooling.

The special meeting, Recommendations for Schools We Need Now, was geared to present a series of recommendations and action steps centered on creating Stark County schools for the 21st Century. The action steps were the result of a year-long process supported by the county's own 21st Century Schools Action Team.

The mission of the 21st Century Schools Action Team throughout the past year has been to work collaboratively with leaders across Stark County to research and design learning options that will help Stark become the most educated county in the nation. The primary goal of the team is to create a world class education system in Stark County .

To achieve that mission, sub-committees of educators, students and business representatives have researched best practices and formulated key recommendations in the following areas:

    School Design
    Core Content and Interdisciplinary Themes
    Life and Career Skills
    Personalized Learning and Positive Climate
    Post Secondary and Workforce Ready
    Learning and Innovation Skills

The end result of the team's work has been both to highlight best practices taking place in Stark County and elsewhere and to create a blueprint for the future. The process will now continue as individual districts prioritize action steps and collaborate on scaling up recommendations.
