College Board Stressing the Power of Arts Education in Preparing Students for College and Career

College Board - Arts at the Core
Arts education has a powerful new supporter in the College Board - publishers of the SAT and sponsors of Advanced Placement (AP) courses and tests.

In launching its Arts at the Core Education and Advocacy Initiative, The College Board is seeking to promote "awareness of the vital role that the arts play in preparing students for college and career success."[1]

Not only will existing AP Studio Arts courses be supported but new on-line curriculum materials will be developed to aid teachers in integrating the arts into non-arts AP instruction.[2]

These developments are significant for Stark County school districts that are offering a total of 157 AP courses during the 2011-12 academic year. Twenty-one of these courses are in the Studio Arts.
