Stark's Dual Credit Courses Give County a Decided Edge in STEM Education

The National Science Board has long been concerned with the state of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education in the United States...(We must) increase access to and quality of college-level, dual enrollment...Preparing the Next Generation of STEM Innovators[1]

With national reports calling for crash programs to ramp up courses in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and states like Ohio launching new initiatives[2], Stark County already has a decided edge.

Over 60% of the county's dual (high school and college) credit course enrollments are already in STEM related subjects. That equates to nearly 800 high school students taking 1,500 college courses a year[3]. This far surpasses the last published figure for STEM enrollments Ohio's Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program at 25%.[4]
