Ed Department Pushes for New Measures of Student Success at Two Year Colleges

An action plan released by the U.S. Department of Education last week can have special significance for Kent State Stark and Stark State College.

The Action Plan for Improving Measures of Postsecondary Student Success[1] is based on the earlier work of the Department's Committee on Measures of Student Success[2] that found the "current federal graduation rate measure is incomplete and does not adequately convey the wide range of student outcomes at two-year institutions."
2+2, Adult, Part-time, Certificate
Current measures largely ignore students who use two year colleges as a starting point for four year degrees, part-time students, those seeking certificates, and adults who may only want to take a course or two to improve their skills. The end result, according to the committee is that the "limitations in the data understate the success of students enrolled at two-year institutions and can be misleading to the public."
