As schools, restaurants and other companies closed during this COVID-19 pandemic, families and businesses have been struggling to find solutions to food, rent, utilities, transportation, medications and other life challenges that they are facing.
These actions have buoyed the spirits and raised the hope that TOGETHER we can overcome this challenge.
With so many resources and Stark agencies available to assist families and businesses, a central website was needed for easy access to those community supports. United Way leaders quickly responded by developing and launching an organized platform – 211stark.org – that provides needed information about a wide variety of areas ranging from food and utilities assistance, to tax services and legal aid. (See sidebar for a list of the top 25 services.)
This new website complements United Way’s 211 phone and text service that has been vital to Stark County for many years. In 2019 alone, 211 answered calls and emails from more than 21,000 contacts and helped thousands of people with life-changing support. The United Way 211 Helpline provides free and confidential 24-hour access to a compassionate professional who will review your options, develop a plan, and act as your advocate if you are faced with barriers to service.
