McGregor Elementary Recognized as a
High-Performing Urban School in a New Report from the Fordham InstituteWashington-based think tank, the
Thomas B. Fordham Institute,
will recognize Canton's
McGregor Elementary and seven other Ohio schools in a
new publication to be released on May 25th. Entitled
Needles in a Haystack: Lessons from Ohio's High-Performing, High-Need Urban Schools, the report will be available to a
national audience.
[1]Earlier this year, in an article,
Finding Excellence in Canton, Ohio,
[2] Fordham noted that McGregor's principal and staff were committed "to constant
improvement and appeared genuinely self-reflective (and articulate) about
wanting to improve their craft."
Principal Victor Johnson agrees and acknowledges that the
recognition from Fordham is quite an honor. He is quick to add that McGregor is
"blessed with a very good staff, kids and parents." While he and his staff are
proud of their results, they know at the same time, they have a way to go. That
is because McGregor envisions a future for its students that goes far beyond
the sixth grade. "We are working to prepare our kids, regardless of their
economic background to be able in a few short years to compete for jobs with
the best graduates of any district," Johnson adds.
