Explosive Growth of Dual Credit Continues Across Stark County

Nearly 1,300 Stark County students took dual credit courses at their high schools last year. Known in Stark County as high school based dual credit (HSBDC), courses were offered for the first time by all 17 public school districts.

A new report from the Stark Education Partnership, Growth and Impact: The Expansion of High School Based Dual Credit in Stark County, Ohio, notes that the financial benefit to both students and families through college credit already awarded can be as high as $5 million depending upon where students enroll in college.

HSBDC began in Stark County with a pilot program funded by the Stark Education Partnership for 65 students in 2006. HSBDC is taught exclusively on high school campuses by teachers who meet the qualifications to become college adjunct professors. HSBDC courses follow the same syllabus and are taught to the same standards as courses offered on college campuses.
