Stark's Composite, Math and Reading Scores Surpassing National Average on Explore Test

Stark County districts are taking an early focus on preparing students for college and career and the results show.

Sometimes called a "Pre-ACT" test, Explore[1] was administered to 4,450 Stark County students across all 17 public school districts in Stark County last year.

While approaching the national average in English, Stark's students are tied in science and ahead in reading. In math, they are nearly a full point ahead of the nation.

2011-12 Stark County vs. US Explore Test

Normally given in the 8th grade, Explore is linked to ACT's College Readiness Standards[2] to give parents and teachers an early gauge on how well students are progressing in mastering the knowledge needed to succeed in college and career.

The composite score reflects all subject areas and here, Stark County's students once again lead. Explore was first administered as a pilot program during the 2009-10 school year, sponsored by the Stark Education Partnership with funding from the Ohio College Access Network.
