Stark's Growth Better than Nation or Ohio in Some College or Associate Degree

According to the U.S Census Bureau's 2014 American Community Survey, Stark County has outperformed both the state and national percentage of growth in 18-24 year olds with some college or an associate degree over the past decade. With a 10.4% increase since 2005, Stark's growth continues to widen the lead over Ohio (6.9%) and the U.S. (8.7%).

To make these significant gains, Stark County districts - in partnership with the Stark County Educational Service Center, Stark Education Partnership, higher education, and community partners - have implemented strategies to reduce the barriers to graduation and develop a supported pathway to education beyond high school. Some of these strategies include:

- Early awareness activities in 6th-10th grades

- Increased rigor and higher standards in middle and high school courses

- Assistance in completing applications for college or career pathway

- Support in the financial aid process

- Visits to college/university campuses

- Opportunities to take college entrance tests at home district

- Exponential growth of dual enrollment/college credit plus classes (high school student earns both high school and college credit while in high school)

Everyone reaps the benefits when our graduates gain the education and skills required to hold a well-paying job.
