Stark County and Nation Tied at 21.3% of Adults with Some College, No Degree

The November release by the U.S. Census Bureau of the 2010-2012 American Community Survey (ACS) shows that over 21.3% percent of the nation's adult population, age 25 and over, has been to college but not earned a degree. Stark County is tied with the nation on this percentage while Ohio is slightly lower.[1]

Some College, No Degree

While the Census Bureau knows that respondents have not earned a degree, what is not known is how many persons have earned a certificate or have pursued college courses to better their employment options or as a work requirement.

Adults with some college, but no degree see an economic benefit of nearly one quarter of a million dollars to lifetime earnings, according to a study by the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce.[2]

Along with one-year and five-year estimates, the three-year 2010-2012 ACS comprises the yearly data set made available by the Census. Each varies in terms of the amount of detail available for specific geographies.
