A Summary

The Stark Education Partnership, Inc.,* is a 501(c)-3 non-profit organization in Stark County, Ohio. Founded in 1989 by four foundations (Deuble, Hoover, Stark Community and Timken) the Partnership serves as a catalyst for school change and a supporter of school-based initiatives to improve the education outcomes for all children, pre-school age through twelfth grade in Stark County. The Partnership was created by the corporate and philanthropic communities in the County as a vehicle to promote county-wide collaborative efforts in this behalf.

In its journey to carry out our mission, the Partnership crosses the lines of 17 public school districts and 21 private and parochial schools while seeking the support of teachers, union associations, the business community and parents.

Our motto is Building Excellent Schools Together. None of us can do the job of building better schools alone. It takes each of us working together as partners--educators, parents, business people, and civic leaders. We share a common goal: to make all the schools in Stark County the best they can be.

Education research over the last fifteen years has shown that certain basic strategies lead to excellent schools. These strategies include: high standards with the aim that ALL students will benefit and learn at high levels of rigor, accountability with an emphasis on critical thinking and creativity, teacher quality, the instructional leadership of principals and superintendents, continuous professional development for teachers, and intensive parental engagement. We seek to support our schools in building the capacity to sustain such strategies.
